Robyn Freedner-Maguire, Campaign Director of Let’s Grow Kids, talks about the role that high-quality, affordable child care should play in supporting the healthy development of Vermont’s children, laying a foundation for future success in relationships, school and life. However, high-quality child care is inaccessible and unaffordable for too many Vermont families. This forces parents who have to juggle work and family to make tough choices—and when working parents have to leave their jobs because they can't find child care, employers lose out too. Another affordability challenge is that child care providers make on average only $24,850/year, often without benefits.
