COVID-19 Resources

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Let’s Grow Kids has been working with partners and policymakers to respond to the needs of kids, families, and early educators during this ongoing crisis. This webpage compiles information and resources for Vermont’s children and families, early educators, employers, and communities and is updated regularly.

Regulated child care programs in Vermont are open and operating under updated health and safety guidelines to protect early childhood educators, children, and families.

Governor Scott initially ordered all child care programs not providing care for the children of essential workers to close on March 18, 2020 and remain closed through April 5, 2020. On March 27, 2020, the governor issued a new executive order directing schools to remain dismissed through the end of the 2019–2020 school year and indefinitely extending the closure period for child care programs. On May 8, the governor announced that programs could begin reopening to all children on June 1.

Because of the hard work of our supporters, Vermonters understand the importance of child care more than ever before. And that's why, throughout the 2020 legislative session, the Administration and Legislature provided significant resources to shore up the crucial child care sector and begin to plan for how to better support children and families, early educators, and communities.
