Coronavirus Resources

With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vermont Legislature and our communities have rightfully pivoted to focus on how to immediately and effectively address the coronavirus pandemic in our state and, in coordination with our partners, we are pivoting with them to compile information and resources for Vermont’s children and families, early educators, employers, and communities. This page will be updated daily as guidance and resource evolve.

**On Friday, May 8, Governor Phil Scott announced that all regulated child care programs may begin reopening as of June 1. The reopening process will look different for every child care program. Programs will need to meet updated health and safety guidelines in order to reopen to protect early childhood educators, children, and families.

Governor Scott initially ordered all child care programs not providing care for the children of essential workers to close on March 18, 2020 and remain closed through April 5, 2020. On March 27, 2020, the governor issued a new executive order directing schools to remain dismissed through the end of the 2019–2020 school year and indefinitely extending the closure period for child care programs. The order also acknowledged that child care is critical to both Vermont’s COVID-19 response and the state’s economy. The state is working to ensure that Vermont’s early care and education system and families remain supported through the extended closure period and the transition to reopening.

Both the Vermont Legislature and the United States Congress are working to address the broad impacts of COVID-19.**
