I knew I wanted a home provider because I feel it's more intimate, homey, and not as structured as a licensed facility. Choosing which home daycare I went with had a lot to do with close proximity to my home, costs, if they accepted subsidy, and the personality of the provider during the interview stage.
First, I looked at providers in my area. Then I looked at the Building Bright Futures website which gives a list of violations from the state. This narrowed my list for people to call. My son has special health needs, so I made sure to see how the providers felt (and what experience they may have had) working with Early Intervention.
